SOLID AND VOID

Night Zag Wall by Louise Nevelson

Fayetteville, ar

Night Zag Wall is a sculpture through which Louise Nevelson explored formal relationships between dissimilar elements. This Solid and Void exercise consisted of choosing a small section of Night Zag Wall and exploring its contrasting qualities such as solid/void, depth/shallowness, and light/dark.

After analyzing this section of the art piece through models and drawings, I designed my own architectural sculpture of the same dimensions as the original section. I utilized those elements to create different contrasting spatial conditions, such as open/enclosed, light/dark, and expansive/compressive, within the sculpture.
